BLUE TIGERS DELEGATION ATTENDS THE 2026 GERLEV SUMMER JUDO CAMP
A delegation from Blue Tigers Judo took part in the 2026 Gerlev Summer Judo Camp in Denmark, joining an international group of judoka for a week of intensive training, technical development and cultural exchange.
The camp brought together athletes of different ages, levels and nationalities, creating an excellent environment for learning and progression. Its programme included technical sessions, randori and numerous opportunities to train with a wide variety of partners.
Martin Lykkegaard, organiser of the camp, highlighted its international character:
“Alongside athletes from the Danish national team, the camp welcomed delegations from Norway, Germany, Hong Kong, Sweden and Qatar.”
The 2026 camp also welcomed Luciano Corrêa as visiting coach. The Brazilian world champion is currently coaching in Germany and brought extensive international experience to the tatami.
Competing in the under-100 kg category, Luciano Corrêa became world champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, having previously won bronze at the 2005 World Championships. He also won the Pan American Games in 2011 and 2015, represented Brazil at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, and reached number one in the IJF world ranking.
His presence gave the participants an exceptional opportunity to learn from an athlete and coach who has competed at the highest level of international judo. Commenting on the camp, Luciano added : "Gerlev camp is a great opportunity for athletes to train in a best in class environment".
For the Blue Tigers practitioners travelling from Qatar, one of the greatest benefits of the camp was the opportunity to spar with many different athletes. Regularly changing training partners exposed them to different techniques, gripping strategies, physical profiles and tactical approaches.
This variety is difficult to reproduce within a regular club environment. Training against unfamiliar partners required the Blue Tigers judoka to adapt continuously, improve their reactions and test their judo outside their usual comfort zone.
The presence of members of the Danish national team, international delegations and a visiting world champion contributed to the high standard of the camp. It also enabled the athletes from Qatar to gain valuable international experience while building friendships through the shared values of judo.
Blue Tigers Judo sincerely thanks Dankemark Judo, Gerlev, Martin Lykkegaard, Luciano Corrêa, the organisers, coaches and volunteers for their warm welcome and excellent organisation. We also thank the Danish athletes and the delegations from Norway, Germany and Hong Kong for the training sessions, exchanges and memorable moments shared throughout the camp.
The Blue Tigers delegation returns to Qatar with new experience, new friendships and renewed motivation for the coming season.
